DWAM USA is a small, specialized breeder of German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever puppies located just east of Dallas, in Kaufman, Texas.  For the past decade our primary focus has been to breed & train exceptional German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever scent detection working prospect dogs & puppies, as well as wonderful family companion puppies.

Our philosophy is  a true working dog should also have the temperament as an excellent family companion & protector.  Our priority is to get our working German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever prospects into the family environment.  Dogs are social, pack animals.  We don't believe that a working dog should to be kept primarily in the kennel.  Because of this, we don't breed for extremes.  Our working prospects are bred for true work, not the sport or show ring.

Many of our German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever dogs have gone on to work in drug & explosive detection, law enforcement, the military, FEMA disaster, search & rescue work and companions to the many wonderful families to whom they've become a special part of.   We strive for balance in our working dogs.  Most of the working dogs that we've placed are also family companions.  A philosophy that we strive for in our breeding program.

Our imported German Shepherd dogs are primarily from the DDR / East & West German working, as well as the West German Sheep Herding lines. 

Unfortunately, Sheep herding lines are rarely, if ever  seen in the modern German Shepherd Dog working dogs.  These herding dogs bring an enormous amount of intelligence & independent, methodical  thinking behavior, work ethics, perseverance  and endurance to our breeding program.  We are also especially partial to the tough Quasy , Xato , and Timmy / Troll von der Bosen Nachbarschaft working lines.  Proving exceptional in their overall working ability.  We've spent years working with & researching these lines so we know what works well for us.

Our Working Labrador Retrievers are from top hunting & field trial lines.  As breeders, we look for natural working / hunting characteristics, excellent temperaments & focus.  You won't find nervous, scattered energy in our working lines. These lines are very steady nerved with a high degree of trainability.  They work with intensity & yet settle wonderfully in the family home, making excellent family companions.   The ability to settle is a trait that we specifically look for in our breeding prospects.

 

 

As breeders, we breed for natural drives, good temperament, solid nerves, plus attitude, attitude, attitude.... and of course enthusiasm to go with that "Attitude"...with a capital A! Training & socialization are key, however if you have a working dog that is weak in some of these inherent areas, it's going to show up when the stress level gets high. We firmly espouse to the philosophy that one should never resort to coerced, harsh training methods to achieve results. Either the dog has it or the dog doesn't. A good working dog should have the work ethics to enjoy its work and do it well!

All of our German Shepherd & Labrador Retriever puppies are raised in the home and have extensive socialization & imprinting  prior to placement, plus lots of TLC.   All of our working prospects will also excel in the toughest of terrain or rubble work.  This too we also breed and evaluate for.  We check our puppies in their progress to ensure that we get an accurate assessment of the personality and future potential of each puppy.  As a breeder, our goal is to ensure a good match between you and your puppy.   Whether you are looking for a German Shepherd or Labrador Retriever working puppy or a family companion, know that a great deal of work goes into our evaluation process of our puppies.  All of our puppies come with a health guarantee.

We usually have bicolors, black & red sables, blacks & the rare working black & red coated German shepherds.  While we are not breeders of long coated German Shepherds, we occasionally have long coated puppies, including the seldom seen long coated black puppies.   Our Labrador retrievers are chocolate, black & yellow coated.

We are located in Kaufman, Texas which is just East of Dallas , Texas.  About 2 hours from both the Texas / Oklahoma & Texas / Louisiana borders.  We ship out of the Dallas / Fort Worth Intl  and the Dallas Love Field airports here in Texas.  Nancy is located in Houston, Texas.
